Ronny Chieng
Ronny Chieng,
born 21 November 1985 in Malaysia, is a comedian and actor. Chieng is currently
a senior correspondent on The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also developed
and is the star of the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, that
premiered on ABC Australia (Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born to an
Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor Bahru (Malaysia). Chieng was educated in
Singapore and in the United States. He lived in Manchester, New Hampshire, from
1989 to 1994. Chieng performed with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival
in 2013. Chieng was then asked to audition for the role of Noah's Daily Show
two years later. He was named one the 10 most watched comics in Variety's July
2016 issue. In October, Chieng joined The Daily Show to discuss a Jesse Watters
Fox News segment many thought to be racist. Chieng spoke in expletive-laden
terms about the segment of Fox News, a conservative news network. He also
visited New York City's Chinatown in which Watters had ridiculed the residents.
The video went viral and was covered by the Washington Post and Slate.

Although he has been living in Australia for over 10 years, he doesn't possess
permanent residency or citizenship status in Australia. Chieng made an ad-lib
about being cynophobic during 2018's Daily Show. But, he later stated that he's
"100 percent not scared of dogs" in an interview.
